VIRTUAL PETROSAINS RBTX CHALLENGE

The Petrosains RBTX Challenge is an event where all robotics enthusiasts gather to compete and battle out their robotic creations in an open-source software environment. It is also a program that provides a common platform for all walks of life to learn, explore and share their interest and knowledge in robotics.

This program is aimed to raise awareness and educate the public on the rapidly evolving digital era driven by the convergence of advanced technologies, i.e. Robotics, IoT, Quantum Computing, and inspire the masses to embrace the Fourth Industrial Revolution. It is also hoped to provide the younger generation with the relevant STEM digital building skills such as coding and embedded programming.

For the first time in 2021, the Petrosains RBTX Challenge 2021 will be organized virtually, and enthusiasts can participate online from anywhere in their respective locations. The virtual Petrosains RBTX Challenge 2021 is an initiative organized by Petrosains, The Discovery Centre and supported by the Ministry of Education Malaysia.

General Terms & Conditions

GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The terms and conditions of the competition are as follows:

1. All terms and conditions may be amended or withdrawn at the discretion of the management of Petrosains Sdn Bhd and organisers of the Petrosains RBTX Challenge 2021 at any time without prior notice.

2. The registered team name is non-transferable. No changes are allowed once the registration is complete.

3. The competition is open to Malaysian residents only, except for the following categories which are also open for International participation;
Robo Tracer: Advance (13-17 years old), Open (No age limit)
Robo Sumo: Advance (13-17 years old)

4. The official languages for the competition are Bahasa Malaysia and/or English.

5. All teams are required to follow the competition timing that will be scheduled according to the local time in Malaysia.

6. One person cannot register to participate for more than one team for the same category.

7. For the Robo Tracer and Robo Sumo categories, one (1) team must include two (2) members and one (1) guardian. For the Innovation category, one (1) team must include four (4) members and one (1) guardian.

8. Registration for the competition is free.

9. Petrosains reserves the right at its sole discretion to change the duration of the competition period.

10. Employees and volunteers of Petrosains Sdn Bhd., its organising committees, advertising and promotion agencies and their immediate family members are not eligible to participate in the competition. Immediate family members include their spouses, parents, and children.

11. Petrosains reserves the right at any time without prior notice to add, alter, modify, change or vary the terms and conditions contained herein, wholly or in part at its absolute discretion and the participants agree to be expressly bound by such additions, modifications, change or variations.

12. Petrosains reserves the absolute right to disqualify any participant in the event that Petrosains is of the opinion that the participant has been involved in fraud at any time during the course of the competition.

13. The decision of the competition judges in determining the winner for this competition shall be final and no appeals against the decision will be entertained.

14. Petrosains and its affiliates shall not be liable for any claims, of any nature whatsoever, including any claim, arising out of the participant’s involvement in the competition.

15. The winner of the competition may be requested to participate in public relation events and/or campaigns to generate press coverage for the competition and Petrosains. Petrosains shall be absolutely entitled at its sole discretion to quote statements made by the participants in any press releases and press conferences relating to the competition and/or Petrosains.

16. By participating in this competition, all participants agree to be bound by the terms and conditions and any decision made by Petrosains.

17. The prizes are not exchangeable, transferable, or redeemable for cash or any other form for whatever reason. Notwithstanding the above, Petrosains reserves the right to replace the advertised prize with other prizes of equal value, without assigning any reason whatsoever or prior notification.

18. The competition winners will be required to attend prize giving ceremonies (if any) at their sole cost and expense. If the winner is not able to attend the prize presentation ceremony, they shall nominate a representative who shall accept the prize on his/her behalf.

19. The participants expressly grant to Petrosains the right at its sole and absolute discretion, to use the names, photographs and video recordings of the participants and/or their representatives without obtaining any prior consent nor making any payment whatsoever to the participants and/or their representatives for publicity purposes in any medium.

20. Petrosains shall not be responsible and/or liable for any physical injury, including death and damage to property of the participant arising out of this competition.

21. Petrosains shall also not be responsible and/or liable for any physical injury, including death and damage to the property of any third party as a result of the conduct of the participant.

22. Petrosains shall not be responsible and/or liable for any cost incurred to the participants by participating in this competition.

Competition Stages

Registration & Video Submission
(10 June -15 October)

  • Register online
  • Upon registration, each team is required to submit a video of the completed challenge/mission by sharing link that is accessible for judges to assess i.e Youtube, Google drive link

Virtual Qualification
(October – November)

  • Top qualifier teams from overall nation shall be notified by Petrosains. During this phase, all selected teams will be evaluated by a panel of trained judges through live virtual video streaming

Virtual Grand Finals
(4 – 5 December)

  • All finalist will go through Live evaluation through live virtual video streaming
  • Separate schedule for live evaluation will be informed later to each team for them to prepare
  • Prizes for all categories

Robo Tracer

Robots must move on the provided track and complete various challenges such as passing through checkpoints or shifting cubes from different towers in the fastest time to win!

Robo Tracer Junior

6 – 12 years old

Junior

The challenge is to program a robot autonomously that can move on a given line (black on white) and pass through all designated checkpoints on the COMPETITION FIELD. The robot with the fastest time will be declared as the winner.

13 – 17 years old

Advance

The challenge is to program a robot autonomously that can move around the competition field by following the track lines and completing a specific mission. The MISSION is to shift all the cube one by one from TOWER ZONE to another and without violating the sequence of arrangement (Tower of Hanoi). The robot with the fastest completion time will be declared as the winner.

Design and develop your own innovative product using programmable controllers with the aim of combatting a global issue.

Innovation Junior

6 – 12 years old

In this category, students are required to brainstorm for innovative ideas and solutions based on digital technology and develop a prototype then demonstrate and present their solutions. The solution must be in the form of a product based on digital technology which consist of a microprocessor (microcontroller) that must be programmed based on the specified theme as per stated in the rules & regulation.

13 – 17 years old

Advance

In this category, students are required to brainstorm for innovative ideas and solutions based on digital technology and develop a prototype then demonstrate and present their solutions. The solution must be in the form of a product based on digital technology which consist of a microprocessor (microcontroller) that must be programmed based on the specified theme as per stated in the rules & regulation. The project must also include an ‘Internet of Thing’ (IoT) technology (connectivity – data logging, device to device communication using any wireless interface).
