Volunteer roles at Petrosains
As a Petrosains volunteer, you play a vital role in ensuring a safe, engaging, and educational experience for all visitors—both for the Discovery Centre and the PETRONAS Twin Towers Visit Experience. Here’s how you’ll contribute:
- Engage with Visitors – Spark curiosity by initiating conversations, answering questions, and encouraging interaction with exhibits.
- Demonstrate Exhibits – Guide visitors on how to use interactive elements safely and effectively.
- Facilitate Learning – Help visitors connect exhibits to broader scientific concepts, deepening their understanding.
- Ensure Safety & Order – Maintain a safe and respectful environment for all guests.
- Provide Customer Service – Greet visitors warmly, offer assistance, and provide directions within the facility.

Volunteer requirements
We’re looking for individuals who are enthusiastic, curious, and eager to make a difference. Ideal candidates meet the following criteria:
- Aged between 18 – 65 years old.
- Fluent in English and Bahasa Malaysia (a third language is a plus).
- Friendly, approachable, and confident in engaging with people of all ages.
- Comfortable speaking in public and explaining STEM concepts clearly.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively with staff and fellow volunteers.

We understand that availability may vary. If you’re unable to meet the required commitment, please inform the Volunteer Management Team—flexible or ad-hoc arrangements may be possible.
What are the average days and hourly commitments required from volunteers?
Most volunteers contribute 8 to 11.5 hours per shift, typically on weekends or public holidays. Schedules are discussed during orientation and adjusted based on availability.
I don't have a background in science — can I still volunteer?
Absolutely! A science background is not required. We welcome individuals from all disciplines, and full training and guidance will be provided.
Do I get paid as a volunteer?
Yes. Volunteers are paid by hourly rate through an honorarium payment. The rate varies depending on the day — weekdays, weekends, and public holidays have different rates.
Will I receive training?
Yes. All volunteers will attend a Volunteer Orientation Program (VOP) and may receive On-the-Job Training (OJT) before starting.
Can I choose where and when I want to volunteer?
Volunteers may indicate their preferred days and locations, but final assignments depend on operational requirements.
Will volunteering help me in my career?
Yes! Volunteering helps develop soft skills, teamwork, public engagement, and communication skills. Certificates or testimonials may be issued upon fulfilling required service.
Can I volunteer if I have a full-time job or studies?
